Should I shave my head and go natural, keep dying, or is there a process to take color out of just gray hair? SAD
I have long hair, naturally brown, now with lots of gray, but dyed. I like my long hair, but sick of dying it
It sounds like you wouldn't mind going naturally gray but you don't want the roots to show. If you don't want to cut your long hair off, you can switch to temporary dyes until the permanently dyed part of you hair grows out. However depending how quickly your hair grows, this could take quite a long time. There is nothing that safely removes permanent dye and you can't dye over it in a lighter colour. If you don't want to shave your hair off, you could cut it shorter and the transition time won't take as long.

You can take the color out. Robertcraig.com has some product that does it.

You've bought into the advertizing that insinuates something is wrong with gray hair.
There is nothing wrong with gray hair..

I am not sure there is a process- you should ask your hair dresser.
I am getting to that point too, where I need to decide to let it start to grey or dye it...

stop dying your hair. the more you dye it the more you are killing your hair and the more you kill your hair the faster its gonna turn grey

If you don't want to keep dying it, you will need to cut it short and start over. Frankly, I've never heard of a hair color that will put gray INTO your hair!

Don't shave your head, except natures process and enjoy your beautiful long hair. Stop dying it, I've watched my mom try to get back the natural red she once had and I vowed to never dye my hair. I know that brown is easier to achieve but if you have allot of thick hair I can under stand why you want to stop. Hey you may like the way it looks naturally. Good luck! (I don't know about the taking color out of grey).

Unfortunately there is no one-step solution for removing color from grey hair. I run into this a lot with my clients.
Grey hair is quite different from naturally pigmented hair in that it is less porous and takes color quite differently. Because there is no natural pigment in the hair the color literally "stains' the hair, making it nearly impossible to remove with a traditional color remover or "Un-Color", as the product is called.
Shaving might be a bit extreme but I've known people to, more or less, do that.
What I usually recommend is to highlight the hair and "weed out" the grey over a period of time. As the hair grows out the color will become less and less noticible. Trick is, you have to get to a platinum blond, so make sure the stylist is using an excellent lightner with buffers. Redken Shades EQ Lightening Crystals are a good example. After a few highlighting sessions you will be well on your way to all grey!

If you just dye the roots every 5-6 weeks, it's not nearly as big a hassle as when you dye all of your hair each time. I just dye my roots. It's better than going gray. I'm too young to look old.....)(
