Long hair for sick and elderly is impossible. Is it a sin for us to cut our hair?

This question has bothered me all of my life. My father died when I was ten, three months later, my sisters and me were at the beauty shop getting our hair cut for the first time. Dad would not let us cut our hair.

I don't think it's a sin to get your hair cut! I guess your Mom didn't believe it was, did she? You grew up in an Amish family, correct? Wow, that must have been interesting. What was it like?

Personally, I always regret the times when I have my hair cut. I keep it just past my shoulders, so I can put it up when going out for the evening. I have it trimmed regularly - to keep it healthy.

We cut our Grandmother's hair when she was unable to care for herself. It was the first time it had ever been cut and we still left it long enough for a braid. It was emotionally difficult, though, to make that decison. She was such a gorgeous woman who always wore her hair up and was incredibly glamorous.
